Preeti’s visual art and writing influence each other exploring themes of relationship, spirituality, Indian-American culture and collective karmic intersections of feminism. She searches for the feelings behind words through her camera and also seeks to understand her visual expression better through her words.
Preeti believes art serves as an anchor and reminder of our humanity. Creation cannot be forced, sometimes prolific and other times strained. A daily practice helps in both circumstances. Her best art usually comes through her, not of her. She seeks to unlock deeper freedom and healing through art and hopes that this will help expand our collective permission to be our truest selves.
After almost 20 years, Preeti returned to art before the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic. She was granted the 2020 - 21 Fellowship at The Hosting where she participated in an intensive year-long one-on-one creative collaboration and coaching program. This concluded with a body of artwork titled Moving Through Staying: A Photographer’s Lens Turned To Self, a photo installation in a group show, a poetry chapbook, Finally Out Loud, chosen by C&R Publishing for their shortlist, and a first draft of a hybrid poetry-creative nonfiction-visual art manuscript.
After attending Parsons School of Design briefly, Preeti sought a broader education from the University of Michigan’s Residential College. She completed an independent study degree in photography alongside a B.A. in Psychology and Women’s Studies.
